A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING CHRISTOPHER MOORE OF TERRY, MISSISSIPPI, FOR HIS EXCELLENT ESSAY REGARDING WILDLIFE.
WHEREAS, the Hinds County Soil and Water Conservation District annually conducts an essay contest with a conservation theme; and
WHEREAS, the winners of the various Conservation District Essay Contests have their work submitted to the statewide contest; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the contest is to increase student awareness of the state's natural resources; and
WHEREAS, these resources are vital to the quality of life in Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, all the districts across the state emphasize the important role that conservation plays in enjoyment of Mississippi's natural resources by her citizens and visitors alike; and
WHEREAS, conducting the essay contest is in furtherance of the District's goals in education of the public of the mandate and mission of the Conservation Service; and
WHEREAS, the theme of the 1998 contest was "The Wonders of Wildlife"; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Moore attends Hillcrest Christian School where he was taught by Mrs. Martha Odom; and
WHEREAS, Christopher, a freshman student at the school, wrote the 1st place essay in his school's essay contest last year; and
WHEREAS, Christopher brought honor and recognition to his school, the faculty and his classmates by placing third in the Hinds County countywide essay contest; and
WHEREAS, in his essay, Christopher declared: "Without the wildlife our state would not be the same. We need to take care of our wildlife for our sake and its before it is too late. With the proper management and care, our wildlife can be conserved and enjoyed for many years to come"; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend the accomplishments of the citizens of the State of Mississippi, especially those of our youth:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Christopher Moore of Terry, Mississippi, for his first place win in the Hillcrest school-wide and third place win in the Hinds County essay contests sponsored in 1998 by the Hinds County Soil and Water Conservation District.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Christopher Moore, his parents, Hillcrest Christian School and the Capitol Press Corps.
